codebar is a charity that facilitates the growth of a diverse tech community by running free regular programming workshops for underrepresented groups in tech.
Join our communityOur goal is to enable people from underrepresented groups to learn programming in a safe and collaborative environment and expand their career opportunities. To achieve this we run free regular workshops, regular one-off events and try to create opportunities for our students making technology and coding more accessible.
Students
Our students come from diverse backgrounds—some aspiring to become full-time developers, while others simply want to learn the basics of coding in a supportive environment.

Coaches
We encourage new students to start with our tutorials on HTML/CSS, JavaScript, Ruby, Python, or Git, while also helping them grasp key programming concepts.

Codebar is awesome! The atmosphere is excellent - everyone is really friendly and the coaches really want to help in any way they can. Coding alone in your room isn't great for when you get stuck and so meeting other coders at Codebar made me realise that others were struggling with the same problems that I was. This really helped boost my confidence, which is vital when learning a new subject. Thoroughly recommended.

The opportunity came in the form of web development and as I already possessed a good understanding of HTML and CSS, the next step was for me to learn Javascript. I started using some of the online schools and whilst they are helpful to supplement knowledge, there is nothing like talking through things with a coach, which Codebar provides. I know no matter what I decide to do in the future, coding and programming will be an important part of the industry (in fact it already is in many industries) and the fact that Codebar encourages those who would otherwise not have an opportunity to learn how to code (which I know is a category I would have fallen under) is great.
