The Hummer is a line of sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks known for being able to drive off-road. The brand started in 1992 when AM General started selling a civilian version of its military vehicle, the Humvee. The actor Arnold Schwarzenegger helped make the Hummer popular in the 1990s.[1]

In 1999, General Motors bought the rights to the Hummer started making new, smaller models like the H2 and the H3. In 2010, facing financial problems, General Motors tried to sell the Hummer brand but failed to find a buyer and was forced to shut down the brand.[2]

In 2020, General Motors started using the Hummer name again. This time, it was not its own separate brand. Instead, it became a model under GMC, another General Motors brand. The new vehicles, called the GMC Hummer EV, is a fully electric pickup truck and SUV.
